Just in case you ever need a quick story to keep the attention of your preschoolers at the table, here it is. I've been using this story for over 20 years now and it gets requested again and again.
All you need is an apple and a knife and you're ready to go. I often use a made-up name for the child in the story that sounds like a combination of the names of the children receiving the story.
You can make the tale longer or shorter as needed. Just be sure to cut the apple at the end of the story and cut it horizontally, not like the one I used in the picture! When you do, you should clearly see a star on each half of the core.
Here's a link to the story in an ebook form but I find it works best with just the props and the storyteller because of eye contact an improvisational possibilities.
