As an educator and daughter of public school teachers, it’s deeply personal for her to know that every child can receive a world-class education. She also knows the rising costs of taking care of a family, buying a home, putting food on the table, and ensuring access to health care have made it too hard for families to get into the middle class and stay in it.

"I want Michigan to be the best place in the country to be a kid, raise a kid, and be healthy, safe, and successful. A place where government is efficient and easy to deal with, where businesses and communities thrive, and where every resident has access to quality child care, health care, education, and housing,"

Working alongside Governor Whitmer, Garlin has a proven track record of leading and delivering for Michigan. He played a leading role in delivering free pre-k for all,

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) - Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist was in Flint on Wednesday to celebrate the achievement of opening 1,000 child-care centers across the state.

The Caring for Michigan Future began in the fall of 2022 and had a goal of opening 1,000 childcare centers by the end of 2024.

Wednesday, Gilchrist announced that they had passed their goal. He adds that as of Wednesday, they opened 1,089 childcare programs, with more on the way.

"This really is going to be a game changer for the State of Michigan," says Lt. Gov. Gilchrist. "Almost 37,000 people will now have access to a safe, affordable, reliable place for them to be. That is 36,000 kids who did not have a place to go who now do."

I’m running for Governor to ensure every Michigander has the chance to Make It in Michigan. That means bringing back manufacturing, making things in Michigan again, and building a future where our kids don’t have to leave the state to find opportunity. We need a Governor who puts Michigan families first — so our kids can live, work, and raise their families right here at home. Together, we will Make It in Michigan.

Let’s get back to basics. We must empower every student to find their best pathway to a successful career, require accountability and transparency in our schools, and ensure every student can read.

Mike Duggan (I)

If kids can’t read, they won’t succeed. As governor, Mike Duggan will bring together teachers, administrators and parents to launch a new early reading program for Michigan students, built around what we actually know works: student tutoring, summer reading and small group learning. For our teachers, Mike will invest in apprenticeship programs, literacy training and the literacy teacher corps. He’ll also explore expanding access to AI reading support for students and other cutting-edge technologies.
